Feedback Strategies

Image
(Feedback:  Mental Itch )  Personally, I am not someone that thrives off of getting positive feedback. I do my work my way and do it well so I do not need someone to tell me that it is "good." On the other hand, if my work is not good, I would like to know what I did wrong and be able to fix it.  Even though I do not personally function off of positive feedback, I am aware that others do. When reading the article "Five Reasons to Stop Saying 'Good Job'" I was intrigued by the fact that Alfie Kohn discourages the use of the phrase "good job." I do agree with many of the points the author made that the phrase is used too much and it is starting to lose its meaning. This article made some good points but I disagreed with the majority of it. I think you should encourage kids because if you fail to do so then they won't believe in themselves. This is not always the case but it is for some children.  Alfie Kohn Another article I found interesting w...

KARMA The Good the Bad and the Ugly This is from a past storybook and it really gave me some good ideas. I like how it explains Karma in a simplistic way in the title but then goes into detail with separate stories. I really like the story of the king and karma because that is the type of stories I would write. I love writing about rulers losing everything and trying to get it back.  Karma This is the link to the wikipedia page about karma. While this is not a story, it provides me with valuable information regarding karma and gives me some inspiration for future stories. I am very excited to see what all I can come up with.  Karma Dreams This is another past storybook but it provided me with a lot of interesting ideas. I like the dreams portion of this storybook and think that could be an interesting idea to use for some stories int he future. I really enjoyed reading some of these stories and it made me want to write about Karma even more.  ( Karma )

Week 3 Story: The Chase

Image
One day, a little boy, his father, and his grandfather went out on a hunt. The goal was to go out and turn the young boy into a man by getting him his first deer. The family was trudging through the woods trying to find the perfect spot to try and see some deer. Eventually, the boys found the spot and saw a deer.  After spotting the deer, they started making their way across the mountain and started tracking it. Hours and hours of searching later, they finally found the deer. It was perfectly still and all you could hear was the wind blowing through the trees. The deer was on the bank of the river just about to take a drink of water when all of the sudden, a noise spooks the deer.  The deer immediately takes off running and the boys start chasing it. On and on the men rode on their horses and the deer kept sprinting along. Finally, the boy got close enough to the deer to shoot it with an arrow right through the heart. Once hit, the deer immediately fell; however, this wa...

Reading Notes Ramayana Part B

Image
The Chase The chase starts with a man named Rama chasing a deer through the woods Rama shoots the deer with an arrow through the heart Maricha's soul springs out from the deer and cries out "Save ME!" Sita was instantly filled with sadness Rama thought he had slain Raksasha who is the brother of Ravana This was an interesting story and would work really well with a storybook about reincarnation. I see a lot of potential in that category.  Bibliography:  Indian Myth and Legend  by Donald A. Mackenzie (1913). ( Deer )
