Writer's Write Notes: I liked how they gave us ideas when it comes to deal with a rejected manuscript. The writing process takes a while and not every thing we do is going to be accepted.  How to choose your genre was also very helpful especially for this class. I am doing a portfolio so I do not need a specific genre, but I really enjoyed reading about good ways to choose a genre.  How to use setting as a conflict is also very interesting and brought up a lot of good points. I could use a lot of the ideas in my own writing to add a new element to my stories.  ( Writers write )

Week 11 Story: The Chase remastered

Image
One day, a little boy, his father, and his grandfather went out on a hunt. The goal was to go out and turn the young boy into a man by getting him his first deer. The family was trudging through the woods trying to find the perfect spot to try and see some deer. Eventually, the boys found the spot and saw a deer.  After spotting the deer, they started making their way across the mountain and started tracking it. Hours and hours of searching later, they finally found the deer. It was perfectly still and all you could hear was the wind blowing through the trees. The deer was on the bank of the river just about to take a drink of water when all of the sudden, a noise spooks the deer.  The deer immediately takes off running and the boys start chasing it. On and on the men rode on their horses and the deer kept sprinting along. Finally, the boy got close enough to the deer to shoot it with an arrow right through the heart. Once hit, the deer immediately fell; however, this wa...

Week 9 story

Drona One day, a young boy was skipping rocks with his father. His dad was showing him the best rock skipping technique but the boy was too small and weak to properly throw the rock. The father told him that one day, he would be strong enough to skip rocks even further than him. The little boy was filled with hope and courage and remembered that moment for the rest of his life. They walked back home and went to sleep. The next morning, the boy had to go to school and his father had to go to work. In the middle of the school day a caravan of armed men approached the schoolyard while the boys were at recess. The school was raided by a local militia looking for child warriors. The militia used their weapons and numbers to shoot up the staff and killed all of the teachers and workers so that only the young kids were left. The little boy and his friends were forced to join the army against their will and fight against the government. These radical soldiers brainwashed the children into...

Week 6 story: House of Fire

Image
House of Fire I was born under unfortunate circumstances. My father was a king, but my mother was a slave. You can rightfully assume that I was not planned or wanted. However, when this happens in royalty, it causes problems.  My father, the King, also had another child that is supposed to be the true heir to the throne. This child is the one he had with the queen before he cheated on her with my mother. The child's name is Joe. Joe has always been better than me in every way. Everyone loves him and he is good at everything he does. Joe is also loved by his parents and my father makes it clear to us both that Joe is the favorite. Of course this hurts me to hear, but after all of these years I am used to it.  One day, Joe was competing in a competition as he usually does. He was going up against a larger opponent; however, because he is Joe, everyone expected him to win easily. This was not the case and unfortunately, Joe was severely hurt. This caused massive panic among...

Week 4 Story Laboratory

I liked how the videos talked about boundless creativity is not always helpful. This is so true and I have already run into this problem many times. I was a director for University Sing which is OU's avenue for people to sing and dance on stage and develop a show. Every year there is a new theme some being more specific than others. The year I was a director, the theme was extremely broad. This made it difficult for us directors to come up with a good show because there was such little guidance into what to write about. When watching some of these videos, that experience was the first thing I thought about.  Another great video was the video about what makes a hero. This was not as personal as some of the other videos, but it did give me some great advice on how to develop stories about heroes. I found it to be very useful and they made the video interesting and fun to watch. This video also made me think of the hero movies I have seen and really made me realize the plot usua...

Week 2 Story The Clumsy Monkey

Image
The Clumsy Monkey One day, two monkeys were playing in the forest. They were wandering around and jumping from tree to tree. They came up with the idea to play tag and began to do just that. As they were running around and swinging from trees, one of the monkeys hit his head on a coconut. You can probably guess that this was the clumsy monkey. No damage was done to the monkey, and in fact, it inspired them to play a new game.  The monkeys came up with the idea to play catch with the coconut. They were having a lot of fun playing catch until the clumsy monkey struck again. The coconut was thrown to him and he tried to catch it like O'Dell Beckham and it fell about sixty feet down from the trees and hit the ground. Once it hit the ground, it made a huge BANG!  Below the trees there were many animals socializing, drinking water, and chatting amongst themselves. All of the sudden, this loud noise hits and causes a mass panic. There was a rabbit and a lion, a deer and a wolf,...
